Overview

With the holidays approaching, families and friends are getting together to catch up, share memories, and ring in the new year. Unfortunately for many families, this will be the year they realize Mom isn’t just a little forgetful. For others, they are just on the edge of caregiver burnout because they have been caring for their loved one for years. This presentation will help you learn how to be most effective in helping families through the stress and grief of the holiday season and what resources are available to assist.

Learning Objectives:

• Gain an understanding of the trajectory and growth in the number of people with Alzheimer’s and dementia in the United States.

• Learn how to coach families through their questions about what’s normal forgetfulness and what requires more in-depth assessment.

• Develop strategies to help families learn about how to cope with their role as a caregiver or care manager and know the resources available to help them.

• Learn easy tips for making the holidays less stressful for caregivers and people with dementia.
