When it Hurts to Care: Compassion Fatigue
Please join Jane W. Barton, Founder of Cardinal, LLC and SCSA Faculty Member, as she presents the Society of Certified Senior Advisors May Educational Webinar, When it Hurts to Care: Compassion Fatigue. This event is being held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 12:00 PM MST.
As we companion seniors and their families, we witness a tremendous amount of loss.
To witness the pain and suffering of others is to be forever changed. Compassionate people bear the suffering of others and often times compromise their own health and well-being when they assume too much of the burden. We must always be aware of where we end and the other person begins – the importance of boundaries. We can companion others in life, but we cannot assume the responsibility for another’s life. To do so puts us at risk of experiencing compassion fatigue, a risk for all who care.

Please join Viki Kind as she presents the Society of Certified Senior Advisors June Educational Webinar, Facilitating Difficult Conversations: Getting Through the Barriers. This event is being held on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 12:00 PM MST.
It would be so much easier if people just listened to our advice and then took action. But there are so many obstacles that stand in the way. Attendees will learn how to deal with the denial, guilt and fear which affect the decision making process. You will also learn mediation techniques to reduce conflicts and to create a shared-decision making process that honors the senior’s preferences.
Viki Kind is a clinical bioethicist, medical educator and hospice volunteer. Her award winning book, “The Caregiver’s Path to Compassionate Decision Making: Making Choices for Those Who Can't,” guides families and professionals through the difficult process of making decisions for those who have lost capacity. Viki is also an honorary board member of the Well Spouse Association and has been a caregiver for many years for four members of her family.
