Session Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the extent of financial scams in our country, especially as it relates to older adults.
2. Learn about how scams have evolved over time becoming more sophisticated and resulting in greater losses.
3. Discuss common sense techniques people can use to protect themselves from financial scams.

Brian will share insights, stories, and experiences from his 28 years in law enforcement plus what he has learned so far in his time working in the non-profit world. He will discuss the latest scams and explain how most scams follow the same basic pattern. Brian will share which age group is the least likely to report being victimized and reasons why that is the case. Brian will also provide recent, real-life examples of victims who fell prey to various financial scams. Brian will also discuss which traits make us more vulnerable to being scammed. Finally, he will provide resources and common-sense advice that can used to protect your clients, families, and friends.
