The Practical, Financial, and Legal Aspects of Direct Hire Live-in Care

Health Care & Home Care

Date: Tuesday, August 27, 2024
Time: 3:20 pm

Session Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify key legislation and trends that are driving the household employment market in the US.
  2. Understand when direct hire live-in care is a viable option for your clients, and when it is not.
  3. Learn how to mitigate tax, insurance, and labor law risks of private employment of a live-in.

In recent years, there have been several changes in the legislative, regulatory, and macro environment shaping how seniors who require full-time supportive care approach their plan to age in place. While some individuals choose to relocate to places where around-the-clock help is readily available, others opt to bring additional assistance into their homes. This session will focus on the latter by introducing the audience to the benefits and potential liabilities of directly hiring a live-in caregiver. David Petroski, Founder of both Grandma Joan LLC and the Live-in Caregiver Association, will share information professionals need to know to advise their clients on whether to consider the live-in care model for their client’s needs. By understanding the legal risks and compliance obligations as well as patient benefits associated with first-party live-in caregiver employment, audience members will be better prepared to successfully guide their clients and avoid common pitfalls.
