Aging Trends

Date: Tuesday, August 27, 2024
Time: 4:30 pm

Session Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the concept of the game plan metaphor to ensure that client goals and preferences are understood, proper resources are engaged, effective support strategies are in place, and family dynamics are navigated.
  2. Examine key issues and challenges encountered by senior service professionals in family caregiving situations and the potential they represent to create roadblocks and derailers.
  3. Identify actions that senior care professionals can take to effectively manage family dynamics for a successful engagement and optimized client outcomes.

Effectively working with family caregivers usually requires strategy, knowledge, skill, and the support of other aging and caregiving professionals. This session explores strategies and solutions to help aging and caregiving professionals effectively identify and navigate common family caregiving challenges with their clients. We explore the planning and actions needed to identify and address client support needs and challenges, manage traditional and tricky family dynamics, navigate the impact of complex family relationships, remove common care and support roadblocks, and avoid family disputes.

The first part of the session is focused on a framework for developing a game plan with your clients:

– Rules of The Game

– Choosing a Team

The second part of the session uses an interactive game board and family game night analogies to introduce important aging and caregiving topics, challenges, and potential solutions. This fun and interactive presentation uses a relatable family game night analogy and game-playing format to present and discuss challenging topics. The presentation draws on popular family game night metaphors and analogies to actively involve session participants in the discussion of key issues and possible solutions. This creative framework can be used by professionals and the clients they serve to proactively identify, effectively discuss, and meaningfully address common aging and caregiving needs and challenges.
