This webinar will discuss the barriers faced by older homeless adults when navigating social services agencies. Recent research has shown that the average age of homeless individuals is increasing. With the extreme distress of being homeless, demands will increase for health care services, nursing homes, other long term care facilities, and the social welfare system. Currently there are many obstacles to accessing resources that need to be addressed.

We here at the Society of Certified Senior Advisors® are very excited to have Dr. Ikeranda Smith. She is a psychologist, consultant, educator, author, and humanitarian who is deeply committed to serving humanity. Dr. Smith is instinctively devoted to helping people achieve their highest potential. 

Through her community outreach, Dr. Smith has consistently increased awareness about vulnerable populations and individuals who are economically disadvantaged. As an innovator, she has challenged the misconceptions regarding society’s perception about poverty. As a Psychologist, she believes in bringing awareness to how mental illness is silently stigmatized in various cultures through lack of education, inadequate funding, and minimal resources. Dr. Smith is uncompromising about addressing a topic that is rarely discussed.

Dr. Smith’s research focuses on marginalized groups such as homeless individuals, human behavior, and male issues. She seeks to interrupt societal norms by increasing awareness on these topics.
