The 2019 CSA Conference Program Committee is pleased to present the speakers for the 6th annual CSA Conference.

General Session Speakers


Joseph W. Jordan

Joe Jordan, inspirational speaker and behavioral finance expert, is the author of the award-winning book Living a Life of Significance. The book has sold over 100,000 copies, is translated in five languages and was
featured in Nick Murray's "The Advisor's Essential Library."

Formerly, Joe ran insurance sales at Paine Webber and more recently was a senior vice president at MetLife. He was responsible for retail product development and started their fee-based financial planning program
and behavioral finance department.

Wesley Cheng

Wesley Cheng is the founder and executive director of, a California 501(c)(3) not for profit organization that connects older adults to each other through their participation in interactive group activities from comfort of home using tablets. He also started the PBC Village, a virtual village that serves the practical needs of over 80 older adults. 

He is a high tech entrepreneur who co-founded KonaWare, a wireless applications company for mobile devices, in 2001, which was eventually sold to GPS pioneer Trimble. He then founded HabitatCare, a research and consulting company that focused on aging-in-place technology solutions. Wesley has also spent 16 years in technical management positions at Hewlett-Packard and Cisco Systems.

Harlan J. Accola, CRMP, CSA

Harlan Accola has been in the mortgage industry for over 20 years and has worked with all types of loans. His specialty and favorite has always been working amongst the 62 plus age group with over 1,000 Reverse Mortgages which has been the most rewarding part of his career. He is now the Reverse Mortgage Director for Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation.

His presentations will give you a very different perspective. He often asked his clients and professional partners, “If what you thought you knew about mortgages and financial planning was wrong, when would you want us to tell you?”

Tom Breedlove, MBA

Tom brings more than 30 years of business experience, including more than a decade as Director at Breedlove & Associates – now known as HomePay – the nation's leading household employment specialist. Co-author of The Household Employer’s Financial, Legal & HR Guide, Tom has led the firm’s education and outreach efforts on this complex topic. His work has helped HomePay become the featured expert on dozens of TV and radio shows as well as countless business, consumer and trade publications.

Jennifer Crowley RN CLCP CADDCT CDP

Jennifer’s experience includes over 20 years of work as a Registered Nurse and she currently holds international certification in Life Care Planning and is a Medicare Set-Aside certified consultant. Jennifer is a long-term care planning expert, having testified in numerous catastrophic injury cases to help all parties understand the long-term care needs through life expectancy.

Zack Demopoulos, CSA

Zack has over 31 years of diverse business experience coaching, leading, facilitating, and delivering results across various businesses, functions, global regions, and cultures. His expertise lies in all aspects of human capital management and service delivery; and his passion lies in helping people.

Don Desonier, JD, CSA

Don Desonier, JD (Ret), Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®, provides individual coaching, family facilitation and mediation services to caregivers and families of loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. His journey to this professional calling is rooted in having been a caregiver to his wife Nancy, who was diagnosed with early-onset dementia in 2008, and passed away from this illness in 2012.

Don has a Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Washington Professional and Continuing Education Program. He also has a Juris Doctor degree, and has been trained as an Elder and Adult Family Mediator.

Cynthia Healy, CPA, CFE, CSA

Cynthia Healy is a longtime trustee to clients who are confident in her ability to manage their money and confident in her respect of their interests and independence. 

A CPA for 35 years, Cynthia recognizes the need to lend a voice to those not able to speak for themselves, be it in management of money, health, home or family relations.  As a trustee, she combines oversight of her clients’ finances with advocacy to support their engagement in life-impacting decisions.

Cynthia’s recent work includes teaching others how to frame sensitive conversations with seniors to maintain a positive focus with productive results.

Jeanette Leardi, M.A.

Jeanette Leardi, M.A. is a social gerontologist, writer, editor, and community educator who has a passion for older adult empowerment and finds special personal fulfillment helping Boomers and older generations identify and share their wisdom with others. Her publishing experiences include staff positions at Newsweek, Life, People, Conde Nast Traveler, and Sesame Street magazines and The Charlotte Observer. She has a Master’s Degree with Honors in English from Rutgers University and a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She gives popular presentations and classes in journaling, spiritual writing, memoir writing, personal mythmaking, ageism, brain fitness, health self-advocacy, intergenerational communication, and caregiver support to people of all ages and is a regular contributor to Stria, 3rd Act Magazine, and Dr. Bill Thomas’ ChangingAging blog. Josephine Levy, MA Gerontology

Josephine Levy works at Beatitudes Campus, a non-profit Life Plan Community in Phoenix, AZ that serves approximately 700 older adults. Her role includes assisting residents with life planning documents and financial supports, making connections to trusted community resources, and educational programming. She holds Master’s Degrees in both Gerontology and English, and her interests include development of social supports and physical environments that promote meaningful growth and engagement throughout our lives. She is a CSA, a Medicare SHIP Counselor, and holds both the USC Executive Certificate in Home Modification and the Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation.

Jessica L. Meyer, MEd, MS, OTR/L

While she thoroughly enjoyed her past life as a teacher, Jessica was drawn to the occupational therapy (OT) profession because it affords practitioners an opportunity to help individuals and populations live their lives to the fullest through a broader, mind-body-spirit capacity approach.  After embarking upon her career in occupational therapy with the expectation of working with young adults, Jessica was increasingly attracted to the idea of engaging older adults in areas of advocacy, accessibility, and overall well-being.

 Cynthia Nelson, J.D.

Cindy was an executive in the corporate world in Atlanta when she wanted to change her career to an area where she was giving backing to the community. She decided to go to law school and was accepted, along with her son, Josh, at the University of Southern Illinois. While in law school, Cindy learned about the difficulties many people faced as they aged.  She also discovered there were legal solutions available to seniors that many people didn’t know about. Cindy focused her studies and compassion around helping to protect people and their assets as they age.

She has become active in various organizations dedicated to elder care and is a regular speaker in the community.  She is committed to helping families to protect themselves and their loves ones from the legal and financial curve balls of getting older.

Roger McManus, MBA

Roger McManus is the co-author with Tim Rowan of Entrepreneurial Insanity in the Home Care Business: When Doing the Same Things Do Not Produce Different Results. Since earning his MBA from Wake Forest University in 1978, Roger McManus has become a respected marketing consultant, association executive and publisher in a variety of market sectors.

Timothy Rowan, M.A.

Tim Rowan has been a student of home care technology since 1993. Following five years at IT Director for a large Colorado Home Health provider, he took over the reins in 1999 as editor of Home Care Technology Report, the industry's most widely read journal covering technology for in-home care providers as well as the state and federal regulations that impact them. After 18 years of vendor and provider interviews, hundreds of product demos and thousands of news articles, Tim has become the industry's recognized technology expert. Based on the expertise gathered through this experience, Tim has built a successful consulting practice, helping home health, home care, and hospice providers make informed software vendor selections.

David Russell, CFP®, CSA 

David is a vice president and trust officer with Argent Trust, a $19 Billion independent trust company with 33 offices in 12 southern states. He has been providing financial advice to individuals, families, and institutions since 1984. At 24 years of age, David took an interest in the relatively new field of financial planning and later earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation in 1987 and his Certified Senior Advisor (CSA) designation in 2017. He has spent the majority of his career helping families plan for their future, focusing on estate plan design, and trust management for high net worth families.

The Rev. Dr. Daniel Schlorff, CSA

The Reverend Dr. Daniel Rodriguez Schlorff is clergy of the American Protestant Union, a brother of the Order of St. Luke (OSL), and is a Certified Senior Advisor. Daniel holds the Doctor of Ministry degree from Pacific School of Religion and master’s degrees from both Hartford Seminary and Meadville/Lombard. He has also completed four units (1600 clinical hours) of Clinical Pastoral Education. Daniel works for Masonicare Health Center as Chaplain, had worked in children’s and youth ministry for seventeen years prior, and resides in Wallingford, CT. For more information, please see

Darra Wray, MBA and CSA

Darra Wray is a business professional with an MBA from the Anderson School at UCLA and more than 25 years of practical business and finance experience.  Darra also has over 25 years of personal experience as a family caregiver and patient advocate and has had a life-long interest in healthcare.  She developed a true passion for family care giving and elder care services through her personal life experiences. She became a Certified Senior Adviser (CSA) in 2018 and founded My Care CompanionsTM to develop resources, services and tools for family caregivers.
