The Medicare Conversation — A Golden Opportunity to Grow Client Relationships and Your Business

How do you address the Medicare concerns of your clients?  Do you have them visit a Social Security office or go to Medicare.gov? Maybe you refer them to a local insurance agent or give them some basic information on Medicare? Or, are you essentially telling them to go away?

If you’re like most professionals advising seniors today, you’re still avoiding the Medicare conversation… and missing out on a golden opportunity to grow your client relationships and your business.

Here’s why.

Regardless of how this demographic feels about their age (“65 is the new 45”) or the products and services you offer (“Long-term care planning is something I don’t need to worry about until I’m old”), once people hit the age of 64, they MUST begin dealing with Medicare. And, they want the help of trustworthy professionals.

This means that professionals willing to have the Medicare conversation can build better relationships with their clients, earn more referrals (seniors talk to their friends about Medicare), and, most importantly, use Medicare as a starting point to have other high value conversations that people usually avoid having, such as long-term care, estate or end-of-life planning.

Learning Objectives

  • You’ll understand why your clients are scared, confused or overwhelmed about making Medicare decisions
  • You’ll be able to help them avoid costly, permanent, even financially devastating Medicare mistakes
  • You’ll get a clear understanding of the Medicare basics — the six steps of Medicare enrollment and a unique understanding of how Medicare is structured
  • •  You’ll get tips for how to use the Medicare enrollment requirement to grow client relationships and, in turn, your business

About Melinda

Melinda A. Caughill, CMO and Co-Founder of 65 Incorporated and i65, first recognized a need for unbiased, expert Medicare guidance while working with her mother, Medicare expert Diane J. Omdahl, RM, MS. She saw how her mother was continually heart-broken by clients who could not get home healthcare services or see the doctor they preferred because of the Medicare enrollment decisions they made when they turned 65. The phrase the was echoed by all of these people was, “Why didn’t anyone ever tell me this?”

In 2012, Melinda launched 65 Incorporated (www.65incorporated.com) along with her mother, Medicare expert, Diane J. Omdahl, RN, MS, to provide unbiased Medicare enrollment guidance through fee-for-service consultations. In 2016, as demand for services grew, the company launched i65, a Medicare enrollment guidance software that empowers other professionals to provide individualized, unbiased Medicare enrollment guidance to their clients – without having to become Medicare experts themselves.
