About this Webinar

Soaring with Ease will focus on the practical strategies and essential considerations for assisting older and disabled passengers during commercial airline travel. Attendees will gain insights into the key accommodations and tools needed to ensure safe and comfortable journeys. We will explore the medical criteria for determining who can and cannot travel, including guidelines for passengers with mobility impairments, oxygen dependence, and cognitive conditions.

Additionally, the session will provide a case study demonstrating real-world applications of airline accommodations and the logistics of supporting special needs passengers during international flights. Participants will also learn about the role of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in setting industry standards and how to effectively communicate and coordinate with airline and medical personnel to ensure smooth travel experiences.

About the Presenter

Bob Bacheler, DNP, CCRN, CFRN, CDP, is an experienced critical care nurse with over 30 years in the healthcare industry, including 20 years as a flight nurse. He currently serves as the Managing Director of Flying Angels, which provides non-emergency medical transport on commercial airlines globally. He has contributed extensively to the Air & Surface Transport Nurses Association (ASTNA) as a member of the Board of Directors, where he helped shape policies related to medical transport by air.

Bob’s career includes serving as a flight nurse and international flight coordinator, where he was responsible for the medical management of patients traveling across the U.S. and internationally. He also has a rich academic background, contributing to multiple texts on patient transport and serving as an adjunct critical care clinical instructor at Neumann University in their BSN program. Bob has also been recognized as a Healthcare Hero.
