A brief overview of benefits available to veterans, their spouses and their survivors including an explanation of how CSAs can work with Veterans Service Organizations to help their clients determine what benefits they may be eligible for and how to access those benefits. This is a follow up to the highly regarded presentation given by Vietnam Veterans of America at the CSA Convention in Baltimore
About the Presenters
Christopher S. Barnthouse, MBA, CSA, CLTC, served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1997, with assignments primarily in Special Forces and infantry units. Following his retirement from the Army, Barnthouse became a financial advisor specializing in long term care planning. Chris is a life member of Vietnam Veterans of America and in 2022 began working with their leadership in developing a presentation informing veterans, their spouses and their survivors on the many benefits available to them.
Dennis Smalling entered service in 1971 as a Military Intelligence specialist in the U.S Army. Following graduation from the U. S. Army Intelligence School, he was assigned to the Republic of Vietnam where he served in 1972 and 1973. His exposure to Agent Orange there severely affected his health. After going through the process of filing his disability claim with the Veterans Administration in 2017, he determined to help other veterans do the same by becoming a certified Veterans Service Officer with Vietnam Veterans of America.
Michael E. Dolan is originally from Texas where he graduated from Texas A&M University and entered the US Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1971. He served as a Missile Launch Officer for Minuteman nuclear missiles for a four-year tour and then served the rest of his career at various bases as a Services officer in charge of such things as dining halls and billeting as well as Morale Recreation and Recreation (MWR)- Officer and NCO clubs, child-care, mortuary affairs, etc. Mike deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm where he was the Services Squadron Commander.
