Tips for Maximizing Your CSA Conference Experience
Make the most of every moment in Denver. Use these practical tips to stay focused, build meaningful connections, and get the greatest return on your conference experience.
Networking Opportunities
Of course, networking is the number one reason to attend the CSA Conference. In-person conferences offer a distinctive platform for networking with industry professionals, speakers, and peers, fostering connections that have the potential to last a lifetime. This is particularly true in professions focused on working with older adults, where dedication becomes ingrained in one’s professional DNA, leading many individuals to remain in the industry throughout their entire careers. The CSA Conference, made possible through the generosity of sponsors, prioritizes networking by providing ample time for breaks and refreshments. Beyond the surface-level interactions, the true value of networking lies in the opportunity to build a robust professional network and a supportive system. Attendees can leverage these connections as valuable resources for problem-solving, seeking guidance, and overcoming challenges by tapping into the collective knowledge of those who have faced similar issues. The CSA Conference recognizes the enduring importance of fostering meaningful connections within the industry.
Face-To-Face Interactions
In our current Zoom-centric era, there is a noticeable yearning for face-to-face interactions, recognizing the inherent value they bring to communication. The richness of information exchange achieved through in-person conversations, facilitated by tone of voice, body language, and facial expressions, contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of conveyed messages. Establishing trust and rapport is notably more effective in face-to-face encounters compared to virtual communication, as the ability to perceive and interpret non-verbal cues fosters authenticity and connection. The prospect of meeting someone in person, particularly individuals previously known only through virtual platforms like LinkedIn, becomes a welcome and enriching surprise in our increasingly digital world.
Breakout Sessions
The CSA Conference boasts a dedicated Program Committee of CSAs from across the country responsible for vetting and selecting speakers, a task made challenging by the popularity of the event among industry professionals who submit proposals. Due to the high demand, the committee must carefully curate the session agenda, focusing on the most outstanding submissions in the tracks of business development, finance and insurance, health care and home care, and longevity/aging trends. The CSA Conference offers over two days of relevant and important content. Conference sessions serve as an excellent platform for networking and collaboration, with participants working in small groups, connecting with like-minded individuals, sharing ideas, and building professional relationships.
Professional Development and Continuing Education Credits
Participating in conferences is a valuable avenue for ongoing professional development, offering exposure to new ideas, best practices, and current industry trends. The opportunity to learn from industry thought leaders becomes particularly significant, providing insights that might be inaccessible elsewhere. This exposure contributes significantly to continuous learning and the expansion of knowledge. Engaging with industry experts, attending career development sessions, and actively participating in networking events during conferences can also contribute to career advancement. The events often serve as platforms to gain insights into job openings and stay informed about industry trends, providing a comprehensive view of the current state and future direction of the industry. Staying abreast of these trends and advancements becomes paramount for sustained professional development. And of course, there is the added bonus of being able to earn continuing education credits for CSA recertification and other credentials and licenses while enhancing your knowledge and building your network.
Marketplace and Exhibits
Exhibits play a crucial role in enhancing the overall conference experience, providing a dynamic and interactive space that adds variety and keeps attendees engaged. With the inclusion of a pop-up bookstore in the exhibit area, conference exhibit spaces such as ours serve as a platform for exploring new products, services, and solutions offered by vendors. At the CSA Conference, we intentionally hold receptions and networking breaks in the same spaces as the exhibits to promote networking throughout the event. The size and scope of our conference— with CSAs and other professionals from so many disciplines—provides attendees and exhibitors the opportunity to truly connect with people from different industries who all have the goal of serving older adults in the best way possible. Notably, we have exhibitors and sponsors who come back year after year because they find that the attendees and the other vendors are all there with a true desire to network, learn, and support one another, things you don’t always find at other conferences. Our exhibitors provide information on products and services that you can take back with you to enhance the lives of your clients.
Keynote Speakers
A keynote speaker plays a pivotal role in shaping the conference experience, either by delivering a captivating opening address or leaving a lasting impression with closing remarks. Often recognized experts or thought leaders in their fields, keynote speakers bring credibility and authority to the event. Their ability to deliver inspirational and motivational messages, drawing from personal stories and experiences, not only boosts morale but also inspires and motivates the audience.
We have had some incredible keynote speakers at past CSA Conferences. Jack York’s “The Wisdom on Wheels Journey” keynote last year was a heartwarming and enlightening session that encapsulated the essence of adventure, human connection, and storytelling. The conference committee is excited about this year’s keynote speakers and looks forward to sharing another inspiring voice who will challenge perspectives and energize attendees.
Honors and Awards
One of the best things about the CSA Conference is that it allows us to celebrate and honor the impactful work that CSAs across the country do on a day-to- day basis. Our conference luncheons are dedicated to celebrating service and promoting education and the engagement of future professionals. We will continue to honor the outstanding contributions made by CSAs with the Service to Seniors Awards Luncheon at this year’s conference. We are also very proud to continue to promote education and future service with the second annual Jeff Henson Memorial Scholarships, which will be awarded to one student and two professionals during the final day luncheon. Join your fellow CSAs and other professionals in these celebrations of service and honor that represent the passion of our membership.
Team Building
Attending conferences as a group can be a transformative team-building experience, fostering collaboration and cohesion among members. Sharing a common learning environment outside the usual workplace allows team members to bond over shared interests, industry insights, and collective goals. The diverse range of sessions and networking opportunities provides a platform for team members to explore new ideas together, engage in meaningful discussions, and collectively absorb knowledge that can be applied to their work. We try to include social events that create informal settings for team members to interact on a personal level, strengthening interpersonal relationships, and building a sense of camaraderie.
Brand Visibility
Brand visibility at conferences holds paramount importance, as it significantly contributes to a company’s overall success and reputation. Conferences bring together a targeted audience of professionals and industry stakeholders, providing a unique opportunity for brands to showcase their products, services, and expertise. A visible and well-represented brand not only captures the attention of attendees but also establishes a memorable presence in the industry. This visibility can lead to increased brand recognition and recall, fostering trust and credibility among potential clients, partners, and collaborators. Moreover, it sets a company apart from competitors and enhances its perceived value within the market. The positive impression created at conferences often translates into post-event engagement, with attendees more likely to seek out the showcased brand for future collaborations, purchases, or partnerships.
